Guide for skipping Cuphead boss fights + IDs
by Noah Verkaik on April 8, 2018
Are you stuck on a boss fight you have spent hours trying to beat, and have gotten completely sick of it? Do you wish you could just skip the boss fight? Do not worry, you are not the only one! Luckily for you, I have found a solution. It's very simple and requires minimal effort. I suggest you use this method if you are really sure that you will not be able to beat the boss, as it takes away the fun from the game. You will get a much better sense of statisfactory when you finally beat that one boss after such a long time! If you are sure, then continue reading to find out how to skip the boss fight you are struggling with.
First of all, this method is targeted at Windows (7+) users, and I will not be describing the steps you need to take on a different device. The steps you need to take are very similar though, so if you know a bit about computers you can make the steps up out of the Windows description.
The first thing you need to do is make sure that your game is fully closed, as you will not be able to edit the files while the game is running in the background. If you are sure it's closed, we can continue. Simply press the WIN key + R to open a prompt named "Run". In there you need to type %appdata% and click on OK. This should open a folder called Roaming. In that folder, search for the folder Cuphead. You can press "C" on your keyboard to quickly navigate to the folders that start with the letter C. If you open the folder you will find 3 '.sav' files. Right click the one that corresponds to your save file that you want to edit, and click edit. I suggest using the default Windows program (Notepad) since the word wrap feature in it makes the file uncluttered. The file's contents may seem intriguing, but it will not matter as I will fully explain what you will need to do. After opening it, make sure you are at the top of the file and you need to press CTRL + F on your keyboard to open the 'find' dialogue. Take a look at the boss IDs below and in the 'find' dialogue type the ID of the boss. You should see the boss' ID highlighted in blue. After doing that, you need to change the value at ‘completed’ from false to true. I am assuming you have already played the boss before, but if you have not for some reason, change the ‘played’ value also from false to true. Change your grade to any number you like from 1-10. The difficultyBeaten value should be set to 1. Feel free to change the ‘bestTime' value as you please. Make sure you save the file before closing it, and then you can re-open Cuphead. The boss should now be marked as beaten!
Here are the steps in short for people who don't like to read :)
Step 0: Close Cuphead.
Step 1: Press WIN + R to open the run dialogue.
Step 2: Type %appdata% and click OK.
Step 3: Find and open the Cuphead folder.
Step 4: Find and edit the correct save file.
Step 5: Press CTRL + F and type one of the IDs listed below.
Step 6: Change the 'completed' value from false to true.
Change the 'played ' value from false to true (if it isn't already).
Change the 'grade ' value to a number from 1-10.
Change the 'difficultyBeaten ' value to 1.
Step 7: Save the file and re-open Cuphead.
That's all! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I'd love to help!
